ALONIA
"THE SILKY SONGSTRESS"
Alonia, affectionately known as The Silky Songstress, is a powerhouse vocalist on a mission to stir hearts and uplift souls through the universal language of music. With a velvety vocal range that effortlessly glides from soprano to tenor, her sound has been described as Flavorful Soul - a smooth blend of R&B, Jazz, Gospel, and Neo-Soul seasoned with southern elegance and spiritual depth.
Whether interpreting Broadway classics, serenading with cinematic ballads, or ministering with soul-stirring Gospel, Alonia captivates every crowd with her storytelling spirit and undeniable stage presence. It's no surprise - she is also professionally celebrated as Dr. Alonia, The Prolific Voice, a dynamic public speaker, journalist, preacher, and life coach whose impact extends far beyond the stage. Yet, every time she takes the mic as a vocalist, that same clarity, conviction, and warmth flow through every note she sings.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Alonia's love for music took root early at Greater Bethany Baptist Church, where she began singing with the children's choir. Her parents recognized her extraordinary gift and nurtured it, enrolling her in the prestigious Young Singers of Callanwolde. Her audition stunned the director, who quickly asked, "Where did such a little girl get such a big voice?" The artistic training and inspiration she received at Callanwolde laid the foundation for the graceful, commanding performer she is today.
From childhood talent shows and school musicals to her time at Spelman College - where she briefly sang with the Glee Club and represented the junior class as 2nd Attendant to Miss Junior - Alonia has always found herself where music lives. As an adult, she became a sought-after soloist for weddings, memorials, and meaningful life celebrations, pouring love and healing into every occasion.
Although life's responsibilities temporarily dimmed her musical spotlight, a divine epiphany in 2023 reignited her passion and launched a bold return to the stage. Since then, she has produced five major showcase events, each one affirming her God-given gift and global purpose.
Today, Alonia reclaims her rightful place in the world of music - spreading love, joy, and peace through the art of music in every performance. With elegance, excellence, and emotion, she reminds us that the voice is more than sound - it's silk, soul, and sacred calling.
Music has always been an integral part of who Alonia Parks is. A native of Atlanta, GA, she was born and raised in the Baptist church; Greater Bethany Baptist Church, to be exact, under the leadership of Rev. William Price King and Rev. Dr. Curtis L. Lester. She credits her musical tutelage from the church to Janette King.
Necee (as she was known by family and friends) was a permanent fixture in the “choir stand” until she accepted her call into the ministry. In her later adult years, she served on the Praise and Worship teams at New Birth Urban and International Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Marvin Hill, Jr. and at Love Life Christian Fellowship Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Grace C. Washington.
In school, Alonia was always a standout in the chorus, talent shows, and pageants. Her musical mentors were Greta Glenn (Harper Elementary School), Dianne Mayfield (Bass High School), Dr. Roland Allison and Carolyn Brailsford (Spelman College).
When Alonia’s parents, Alonzo and Velma Parks, discovered their youngest child was vocally gifted, they enrolled her in the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center where she passed the audition to sing with the Young Singers of Callanwolde. The director, Stephen Ortlip, inquired of Mr. and Mrs. Parks, “Where did such a little girl get such a big voice?”
As Alonia got older, she continued to sing at weddings, family reunions, birthday celebrations, homegoing celebrations, and other grand affairs. Over the past 35 years, she has built a stellar career that has rightfully established her as “Dr. Alonia: The Prolific Voice”. As such, she has excelled in public relations and business in a number of capacities to include journalist, public speaker, educator, minister/pastor, and certified life coach. She is excited to combine her storytelling abilities with her gift of song and is willing to go wherever the music takes her.
